BBC EastEnders Debbie’s fate ‘sealed’ – and it’s ‘bad news’ for Reiss

EastEnders fans are convinced they’ve rumbled a twist for Reiss Colwell.

Only recently on the BBC One soap, Reiss embarked on another IVF attempt with girlfriend Sonia Fowler after the nurse found out he had been using his comatose wife Debbie’s money to fund the treatment. Sonia’s sister Bianca Jackson uncovered the truth as she tracked Reiss down and found him by Debbie’s bedside in hospital after discovering he had tried to scam Kat Slater and Jay Brown in vain to gather the funds necessary for his other half.

Viewers will recall that Reiss eventually admitted to Sonia what he had been up to and after initial reluctance, the nurse was then convinced by Kathy Beale to give her beau some credit and the couple agreed to give things another shot… with the rest of Debbie’s money in hand. EastEnders viewers have been left wary of Reiss, speculating that Debbie’s coma could have been the result of his own actions.

In recent episodes, it was revealed that Debbie’s care fees were three months overdue and the accountant was stressed over the £18,000 bill. Earlier this week, things only got worse when Debbie’s care home rung Reiss to reveal he still owes them money and that Debbie will be moved if he doesn’t pay.

Feeling desperate, Reiss decided to scam Sharon Watts and lied to her about an outstanding VAT receipt, warning she had to pay £13,500 as soon as possible. However, he was soon left feeling guilty when Sonia revealed that she was pregnant and he came clean to his partner about their debt.

On Tuesday, as Reiss attempted to go through with his plan, Phil Mitchell was wary as he asked for proof of the VAT receipt. And on Wednesday, Reiss lied to Sharon, pretending it had been shredded and then claimed he had found a loophole so she didn’t have to pay the VAT anymore. Yet in another sinister twist, he then pretended he had an investment scheme she could invest money into.

Phil was again suspicious as he tried to stop the investment but Sharon asserted her control, giving Reiss permission to invest their funds. Meanwhile, at the same time, Sonia, who has no idea of Reiss’ dodgy dealings, decided to visit Debbie at the care home, revaling she was pregnant and promised to pay back every penny they had taken for the IVF as she was going to sell her house.

Before she left, Sonia decided to readjust Debbie in bed with her pillows and upon leaving, she was scolded by a nurse for not signing in as Sonia was forced to write her details in a visitor’s book. After Sonia left, Reiss then visited Debbie as he broke down about his debts, claiming if she passed away, he could start again. Doing the unthinkable, Reiss then grabbed a pillow and appeared to smother her as the episode came to an end…

It remains to be seen if Reiss has a change of heart and if Debbie dies but viewers have already been predicting a twist. Soap watchers are wondering whether Debbie will suddenly wake up with Reiss caught red-handed. Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “I want Debbie to wake up and expose Reiss something doesn’t add up I feel like he’s the reason she’s in there #Eastenders”, a different account put: “I really hope my girl debbie wakes up in #eastenders imagine reiss’ face…”, another put: “Debbie is going to grab Reiss’s hand just as he’s about to kill her, I can feel it #EastEnders” while another added: “I bet Debbie’s hand moves as he’s about to place the pillow over her #EastEnders.”
