Ian Beale compares EastEnders legend to Rose West and we’re honestly staggered

Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was back from America in tonight’s EastEnders and he had some very important gossip to catch up on.

Last week, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) was arrested on suspicion of murdering Debbie, Reiss’ (Jonny Freeman) unwell wife who had been in a coma after experiencing a stroke.

We know full well that Sonia is not capable of such crime, and remains unaware Reiss has allowed her to take the fall for him.

Reiss smothered Debbie with a pillow at the end of July. Because he was struggling to pay off all his debts, Reiss figured out that the care home bills wouldn’t increase if Debbie wasn’t around anymore.

When Sonia and Reiss were arrested during their engagement party, Reiss managed to escape time in prison because he said he had an alibi. Sonia, however, wasn’t as lucky.

Because Sonia had visited Debbie earlier that day, her DNA was on the pillow behind Debbie’s head, the same one Reiss later used to kill her.

And without an alibi, things really weren’t looking good for her.

In tonight’s episode of the BBC One soap, Ian was back in Albert Square. He had been in America visiting Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), who was arrested after committing fraud.

In the café, it wasn’t long until Ian and Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) started chatting about Sonia.

The main focus for Kathy was the fact she knows Sonia is a good person and wouldn’t kill someone. Ian – who has known Sonia for years – surprisingly didn’t share that same view.

‘That’s what they said about Rose West’, he responded.

Notorious serial killer Rose West was responsible for murdering and torturing 10 young women between the years of 1973 and 1987 with her husband Fred West.

So yes – Ian’s comparison is quite a stretch, let’s be honest.

Ian’s morning was certainly quiet compared to how his evening panned out. He decided to go along to an event at Peggy’s with the likes of Alfie (Shane Richie) and Howie (Delroy Atkinson).

However, as more and more people filed into the building, Zack (James Farrar) quickly realised things had become incredibly dangerous.

With a variety of Walford residents trapped inside, it’s currently unknown as to how the aftermath will play out.
