Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) resolved to silence Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) in EastEnders, as her identity as The Six’s secret blackmailer was exposed.

For weeks now, Bernie has been trying to intimidate Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) in a bid to get her to stop her giving evidence at Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) murder trial, believing Sharon is really responsible for the death of her brother Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).

She has been sending poison pen letters and texts to the Queen Vic landlady, and has since started to threaten Sharon directly, all the while getting closer to her.

However, Kathy stumbled upon her plot when she dropped her burner phone in the caff during Wednesday’s episode.

Not realising Kathy’s involvement in the cover-up of Keanu’s death after Linda stabbed him on Christmas Day, Bernie fobbed her off with an excuse that it was a pay-as-you-go phone to call her mum Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) in Spain.

Kathy then tried to dig further, asking her questions about Dean’s upcoming trial, before Bernie confessed to her boss that she wasn’t convinced the rapist killed her brother, believing Sharon was the real culprit.

After Kathy’s attempts to convince her otherwise were met with a lukewarm response, she reported what she’d discovered to a shocked Sharon.

They then resolved to find concrete evidence before telling Linda of the development.

Speaking of Bernie’s attempts to bring Sharon down, actress Letitia Dean said recently: ‘It’s very concerning for her. Bernie is hell-bent on making Sharon pay for the death of her brother and she’s made it very clear that she won’t let this issue lie.

‘We’ve seen Bernie resort to some very low tactics in the past couple of weeks so who knows how far she is willing to go, she’s very unpredictable.’

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
