It’s been a terrifying week for EastEnders icon Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) after being brought face-to-face with her father’s killer Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) in prison.

There have been crossed words, threats and an attempted knife attack, but the two women finally reached an understanding during Thursday’s episode of the BBC soap, as Sharon came to a realisation about her murdered dad Den Watts (Leslie Grantham).

Viewers will know that Chrissie bludgeoned Den to death in The Queen Vic back in 2005, before attempting to evade justice by fleeing the country with lover Jake Moon (Joel Beckett).

Their plans were thwarted, however, when Sharon orchestrated her arrest at Stanstead Airport, and she has been in prison ever since.

After Sharon was sentenced to a week behind bars for being in contempt of court during Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) trial, she mistakenly let slip details about Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) murder, which Chrissie latched onto and threatened her with.

However, on Thursday, both women let down their guards and Sharon ended up spilling everything about her involvement in Keanu’s death and the subsequent cover-up.

As the two women bonded over the parallels between their situations, Sharon finally admitted that her father was not the man she always held him up to be and agreed with Chrissie that he was unable to love anyone but himself.

Seeming to exonerate Chrissie, Sharon then reasoned that perhaps Den ‘got what he deserved’.

Healing their complicated past, Chrissie encouraged Sharon to fight for her freedom as Sharon told her to make the best of her upcoming parole hearing and rebuild her life.

Later in the episode, Chrissie was granted early release and left prison to be reunited with Jake, as actor Joel Beckett made a surprise cameo appearance.

But that wasn’t before she dropped one final bombshell on Sharon (albeit in advertantly) – she told of how she’d briefly shared a cell with Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton), who had given birth to a baby.

Putting two and two together, it dawned on Sharon that Ruby must have been carrying ex-husband Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) baby when she was jailed in 2021, paving the way for the character’s upcoming return to Walford…

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on iPlayer.
