EastEnders aired some sad news about Ben Mitchell tonight, after Max Bowden’s exit from the show.

Max made a departure from the BBC soap in scenes airing last Thursday when Ben was arrested in shock scenes as he faced fraud charges in the United States. Ben was horrified after he was arrested in front of his daughter Lexi, and in sad scenes, she told him she was disappointed about all that was going on with him.

In sad scenes, Callum came to visit Ben – after previously refusing to do so – and they shared a heart to heart. Callum told Ben he wasn’t splitting from him, and that he would support him but begged him to plead not guilty with it all.

However, tonight, Callum was devastated when he found out that Ben had decided to plead guilty and was being extradited to the United States on Tuesday, leaving both him and Kathy Beale devastated as they shared a hug in the pub.

Max Bowden confirmed last week he was leaving the BBC soap, admitting he will “forever be grateful” for his time on the show.

Speaking about his exit from the show, he thanked the fans as he shared: “Well guys It’s that time! It’s been one hell of a ride! Thanks for taking Ben to your hearts and allowing my version into your lives.

“I had an amazing five years at @bbceastenders and learnt a hell of a lot about myself and the craft I love so dearly; it got me through some very hard personal times and I will be forever grateful! I really will never be able to thank everybody for the support enough, because the fans of the show are so passionate, caring, and invested and it enables us as actors to want to keep going and always be better; so I really do from the bottom of my heart appreciate every single person who has sent any sort of positivity my way over the last five years – I love you all. Ben Mitchell 6.0, over and out. Goodbye EE! I’ll miss you all.”

Fans are convinced that Ben may make a return to the BBC soap one day, but believe it will be taken on by another actor. Ben has been played by a number of actors in the past, so there was no chance of Ben being killed off.
