BBC EastEnders fans predict affair between two residents but are now left ‘grossed out’

Die-hard fans of EastEnders will know that Cindy Beale is known for being a scarlet woman following her illicit affair with David Wicks, behind the back of her husband Ian Beale.

And while 25 years have passed since Cindy was able to cause havoc within Albert Square, it seems as though fans of the BBC soap have predicted that Cindy is set to break hearts once again – but not with George Knight, who she has been trying to resume a relationship with since returning to Walford. The overly confident mum, played by Michelle Collins, 62, has left fans convinced that she has set her sights on George’s son Junior – to embark on a seedy affair.

Cindy was supposedly killed off in 1998 but was instead placed in witness protection and given a new identity under the name of Rose Sawyer. But in 2003, it transpired that she was alive and living in France with Ian, played by Adam Woodyatt. And in yet another twist to the tale, Cindy is the mother of Gina and Anna, whose father is George, who had also moved into the Queen Vic pub.

But after making it her mission to reclaim George, away from Elaine, it seems another interest has taken her fancy – step forward Junior Knight. Taking to EastEnders ‘ Reddit thread, one fan wrote: “I think the twist will not be the predictable Cindy × George affair, but her getting with his son (who is the chip off the old block).” Meanwhile another person said: ” They are already laying the groundwork: dubbing in Cindy saying it was the first time they’d met, making it clear there’s no biological connection. It would be fireworks and a fantastic detonation of the Knights and the Beales, and a classic Cindy moment!”

And a third person added: “Honestly want more drama here than just Cindy and George having an affair, so let’s keep Cindy true to form…I wouldn’t put it past her, but would she have had and or, could she have an affair with Junior?” But it seems not everyone is convinced of this theory as another person commented: “That would be gross and wouldn’t make sense”. Someone else penned: “Now that would just leave lan with nothing. But Cindy cheating on him with George and his son. That would take cheating with an attractive man to whole new level!”

Speaking abot her return back in 2023, she told The Sun: “It’s nerve-wracking, but it’s also very exciting. I think things are about timing, really life is about timing. And I think if it happened five years ago, I probably would have said no.” And Adam, who has played Ian Beale since 1985 added: “[The] nicest thing has been going back and seeing all the faces that I haven’t seen.”

Writer Chris Clenshaw, who created to story of Cindy’s return with Ian, said the production team has been discussing the finer details for more than a year. He said: “We started to look at the story and obviously, make sure it was credible in terms of, she’s dead, how could that work? But… we didn’t see a body. We made sure that it worked with our research and our advisors and they came back and said, ‘Yeah, this is in fact, what could and would happen’ and that’s when I was like, OK, I think we’ve got a shot of being able to do this.”
