BBC EastEnders fans predict massive DNA twist for pregnant Sonia Fowler
Sonia Fowler was over the moon as she told her partner Reiss Colwell she was pregnant in recent EastEnders scenes. Off-screen, however, viewers want to know who the real father is.
EastEnders viewers are convinced that Reiss Colwell is not the father of Sonia Fowler’s baby as they suggest one soap legend could at the core of the new storyline.
The pair, respectively portrayed by Jonny Freeman and Natalie Cassidy, struck up a romantic relationship last year but encountered a string of issues throughout the months. Reiss most notably had to admit he was still married to his wife Debbie, who was comatose after suffering from a stroke, before it was revealed he was infertile.
But despite their woes, the couple stood strong and became increasingly determined to have a baby following a pregnancy scare. After undergoing an IVF treatment, struggling with the sight of mother-to-be Whitney Dean and learning that her womb lining was thinner than ideal, which could prevent a successful pregnancy, Sonia dropped a bombshell on her beau in recent scenes of the BBC One soap – she’s pregnant with their baby.

Sonia’s news has ignited hopes of a happy family but over on Reddit, some fans believe they shouldn’t celebrate too early as they expect another Albert Square man to be the baby daddy. Their theory involves a twist which could point towards Martin Fowler as the baby’s father.
Diehard viewers of the soap remembered that Sonia and Martin (James Bye) were married twice and share an adult daughter, Bex Fowler, born when her mother was just 15 years old. Both beloved characters have remained on good terms, with Sonia even hoping for a reunion only to find out Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) was still on his mind.
Fans are now rooting for Martin and Sonia as they hope the theorised will air on screens with one penning: “let Sonia get pregnant, but naturally and by someone else. I would honestly root for Martin, even if they don’t get back together.” Another jumped in: “imagine if she and Martin had a one night stand all this time.”
“Plot twist she’s been with Martin all this time”, a third viewer speculated while another has shared hopes the couple will give their romance another chance: “Sonia deserves to be with someone like Martin.”
While viewers took an instant liking to him following his EastEnders debut last year, Reiss Colwell’s popularity has slowly decreased as Sonia had to come to terms with the fact she was effectively dating a married man – a secret he kept for months before finally spilling the beans, pushed by Rocky Cotton.
Meanwhile, Martin has had to catch up with all the drama when he returned from Australia with Sharon Watts, and caught his ex-wife Stacey smooching married Jack Branning, which ultimately led to a brutal showdown in Albert Square.
Viewers once hoped to see Stacey and Martin reconcile, as the chemistry between them remained palpable since their separation. But things went south when her online sex work – and stalker ordeal with Theo Hawthorne – got in the way. But could Sonia’s pregnancy be what he needs to rekindle another one of his biggest romances?
