Some sad funeral news hits one EastEnders family next week – ahead of a surprise arrival.

The Knight family have been rocked in recent weeks by the arrival – and departure – of George’s mum and dad, Gloria and Eddie Knight. Whilst George knew he was adopted, he had no idea that he was given up by his biological parents as part of a baby farming storyline, and when his parents wanted him back, Eddie decided to kill George’s father to make sure he could never get him back.

Gloria had been keeping this secret for months, and in a sad turn of events, she had a heart attack and later passed away whilst George sat with her at her hospital bed, leaving him devastated by the loss.

Next week on the BBC soap, Anna Knight decides she needs to speak to her grandfather Eddie Knight in prison, although it is against her family’s wishes. When she speaks to him, she finds out that the funeral for George’s mum Gloria took place yesterday and she worries about if she’ll be able to break the news to her dad George.

This all comes as fans have been predicted George’s son could make an appearance on the BBC soap. After Gloria had passed away, George tried to contact his mysterious son but to no avail, fuelling speculation he might appear in Walford soon.

If George’s son arrives amid this tough time for the whole family, could that make things tricky between George and Elaine or George and his two daughters – Anna and Gina – who he has with his ex-wife Cindy Beale?

Speaking about Gloria’s shock heart attack, Colin Salmon – who plays George – shared: “I don’t think people can underestimate the impact of stress on a human body. I think one of the reasons Gloria and George are so close is they’ve both lived with Eddie who is a bully, which is one of the reasons George cares so much for her.

“She’s helped him get through it and he’s helped her get through it. The fact that Eddie feels she has been treacherous, and he wants to punish her for it, is just too much for her. Gloria is a bit like a sparrow if you’ve ever caught one in your hand, you feel her heart pounding, and it just becomes too much – but I am glad George is able to be there for her.”
