On Monday night’s episode, Nadine started panicking as she told Jay, in front of his family, that her friend’s flatmate was kicking off about her staying at their property and she had to be out by the end of the week. Nadine was inconsolable as she worried about how she was going to work and look after a baby with nowhere to live.

Jay reassured Nadine, saying he would help her, to which Lexi then said she was feeling sick as Jay insisted she had to go to school and put Nadine before her. Sensing something was bothering the youngster, Billy said Lexi could stay with him and she soon told her great-grandfather that she spotted Nadine with alcohol last week but Jay doesn’t believe her, adding: “She’s not as nice as everyone thinks…”

This gave Billy food for thought, as he tried to encourage Jay to get a paternity test and also shared his suspicions with partner Honey Mitchell. Later, at The Vic, Nadine arranged peace drinks in order to get the family onside, where she received a call from someone called “Olivia” to which she ignored. However, the drinks took a dramatic turn when Stevie, who is Billy’s estranged father, made an unexpected arrival.

On Wednesday’s episode, Lexi secretly enlisted Stevie’s help with Jay as the pair headed to 29B, where Stevie encouraged Jay and Nadine to get a DNA test. However, Stevie soon got suspicious over Nadine’s behaviour as he spotted her hiding a wad of cash from Jay for a “flat deposit” and later his suspicions came true as he witnessed a secret meeting between Nadine and Olivia.

During the meeting, Nadine handed over the “flat deposit” money to which Olivia said: “I know you don’t believe me, but I don’t feel good about this…” with Nadine snapping: “How do you think I feel?” this prompted Olivia to warn: “I want the rest by the end of the week!” The chat was overheard by Stevie and he also witnessed Nadine readjusting her baby bump.

Stevie then confronted Nadine, who gave him a wad of cash as hush money, explaining: “I know you think I’m scum but she’s blackmailing me and if I don’t pay up…” It appeared that Stevie was going to keep quiet as he accepted the money but later at the Queen Vic, during a family get together organised by Lexi, Stevie decided to win over everyone’s trust as they attempted to make him leave.

The newcomer declared: “I’m not the only villain in here, no, I’m not the worst villain here, she is… she’s offered me money to keep quiet about it but I didn’t come back here for money. I came back here for family and she ain’t it” as he prodded her “baby bump” with his walking stick to the shock of his family and then exposed the fake bump.

With Stevie admitting his true intentions and how he’s not back for cash just family, viewers think there could be a heartbreaking twist. Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “I really like Stevie at the moment, but I can’t work out if he’s going to be a villain like Grey or Archie, who started off good then turned evil. He’s dying, or he’s just wants to be with his family? #Eastenders.”

Elsewhere, another soap fan added: “I wonder if he’s terminally ill or something and he’s trying to ease in this new Mitchell family coming in gently before he goes and make up for lost time.”
