BBC EastEnders viewers fans rumble huge return for soap legend with dramatic storyline

While Linda Carter battles with her alcohol addiction, EastEnders fans are growing increasingly convinced that her husband Mick will soon be making a return from beyond the grave.

Mick Carter vanished at sea in December, 2022, but EastEnders viewers are convinced it’s only a matter of time before the pub landlord walks back into The Vic.

The fan favourite, portrayed by Danny Dyer since his debut in 2013, was said to have died by the authorities after attempting to save both childhood sweetheart Linda (played by Kellie Bright) and new bride – although he was ready for another divorce – Janine Butcher.

Both women survived, with the latter winding up in prison for her actions against Linda, but Mick disappeared and when his wallet washed up on the shore, police declared he had died, despite having found no body.

Linda has been left a shell of herself since Mick’s disappearance, particularly as the pair had been planning to give their marriage another shot before he went missing, and she turned back to the bottle in a desperate bid to cope.

The pub landlady was a sorry sight this Monday (June 10) as her downward spiral continued. While she first appeared in the instalment sober, her demons quickly caught up with her once she mentioned she was still dreaming of Mick and Bernie Taylor asked if she could host her brother Keanu’s wake in the Vic.

Overwhelmed by the void left by Mick and the memory of Keanu’s murder on Christmas, Linda tried to cope the only way she knew how – by hiding out in the cellar, drunk out of her mind. But there may be hope for Linda as fans took to X, otherwise known as Twitter, to share their thoughts as they speculated that Mick could return to Albert Square.

“Linda is having dreams of Mick. I’m convinced one day he will return”, one of them wrote, while another added: “Also they need to replace Lola’s picture with a picture of Mick now on the bar. Mick was owner of the Vic and had a more substantial impact on the place then Lola did. I still think Mick may come back for the 40th – Keep in mind we haven’t seen a body.”

Another soap fan added: “I can see thick Mick coming back some day with a ridiculous story”, just as another seemed to echo: “why did we never get a funeral send off for Mick? or did I miss something.” Although he has never announced a return, actor Danny Dyer made it clear he wasn’t against reprising the role of Mick Carter in the London-based drama.

Speaking on the Jonathan Ross Show last year about the possibility of returning, he said: “If it goes [bleep] up I can go back. I can turn up in three years’ time, walk in The Queen Vic smothered in seaweed.” He added: “They wanted to keep it open. I’m very privileged and grateful for that job. It really did change my career and my life.”

Albert Square is likely to come back other members of the Carter clan, including Mick’s mother Shirley Carter, who left Walford in the wake of his disappearance, heartbroken.

Elsewhere, fans have wondered if Lorraine Stanley would reprise the role of Karen Taylor as funeral plans for her son Keanu have been made. “Keanu’s funeral on Thursday. Does that mean Karen will return on Thursday for the funeral?”, one viewer asked. Only time will tell.
