BBC EastEnders villain’s return date ‘revealed’ as actress makes bombshell four-word statement

Charlie Brooks - who is best known to soap fans for playing Janine Butcher on the BBC soap - has opened up about a possible return to EastEnders

Charlie Brooks has teased that Janine Butcher could make another shock return to EastEnders.

Fans of the BBC soap will remember that Janine was jailed for five years after the shocking events of Christmas Day 2022, which lead to an exit for her partner Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), who jumped into the sea to save Janine and Linda.

However, viewers have been predicting that Janine could make a shock return in the coming months and years amid speculation that Mick might make his way back to Albert Square as part of a huge new storyline.

Asked if she might make a return, she told Metro: “I have no idea. I don’t know if the soaps will still be around in five year’s time – who knows what will happen? I think people are watching TV very differently these days. But I always say ‘never say never’ with Janine. EastEnders has been a blessing for me, it was my training ground and I love going back there.”

Charlie is best known for playing Janine in the BBC soap, and has held several stints on the show. She previously told us that people have an “opinion” of soap actors – and she has found it hard to shed her iconic soap role.

“I think people have an opinion on soap actors – not all people and that might be changing. There’ve been fantastic actors who’ve come from a soap and gone on to do amazing things. But, for sure, there’s a stigma,” she said.

“I haven’t done many roles, so clearly [it’s been hard to shed]! Janine is iconic so it’s hard for people to see you in anything else. I think I’m A Celebrity probably helped as people got to see Charlie and Janine are very different.”

Last year, during an appearance on This Morning, she teased a potential return. She said: “I’m still getting messages of hate about breaking up Mick and Linda but I was so honoured to be part of that storyline and to work with those two. I love Danny and Kellie so much. We really had a fantastic eighteen months and I loved my time there. I was so honoured to be there and be part of that massive storyline and see Danny Dyer out of the house. Pop in and out whenever I fancy… not when I fancy, that’s up to [the show bosses].”
