BBC issues EastEnders update on if Sharon Watts will return

EastEnders fans fear that a Walford icon has quit the show after she hasn’t appeared since January. Letitia Dean plays Sharon Watts in the BBC soap and has been centre to The Six storyline that has been unveiling over the past few months, but, she is nowhere to be seen.
However, the BBC has now issued a fresh update on Sharon’s whereabouts. A spokesperson for EastEnders has confirmed that Letitia will be back on screen as Sharon at the beginning of April.
It comes as Sharon was last seen heading to Australia to see her best friend Mel, with her final scene at the Tube station with her son Albie.
Sharon left Albert Square in the midst of the fallout from the soap’s biggest storyline in recent years. She was one of the six women who worked together to cover up Linda’s crime – the others being Stacey, Kathy, Denise and Suki.
When things spiralled out of control on Sharon and Keanu’s wedding day on Christmas day he tried to strangle her, provoking Linda to stab him. Since then the ladies have been trying to cover up Keanu’s death and lying to those around them.
Those remaining on the square have had many meetings and even dug up and reburied Keanu’s body. The impact of the events have also taken a toll on the characters as Denise has been sectioned following the stress of Christmas and Linda has taken to alcohol again.
Recently, there was further worry for the group as Stacey was taken to the police station after Nish decided to lie and say that she attacked him at Christmas. She was released without charge but may have started to create issues for The Six as she slipped up in her story to Jack (who she is having an affair with) when he came to collect her.
Since Sharon’s departure, Martin has also headed to Australia to see Mel as she had a hysterectomy, explaining why Sharon has yet to return. Many watchers believe that Letitia will be back but is taking a break from the show.
One user on Reddit said: “I hope she hasn’t left, Sharon is my favourite! Her absence does seem very strange though.” Although there was lots of concern many viewers seem to believe she will be back on screen soon.
One Reddit user said: “She’s back filming, she’ll be back by the end of this month at the earliest. I think it’s silly that she’s gone when her character is the main out of the six.”
