The hit star-studded spin-off version of the popular baking show returned this spring with a new mixture of celebrities hoping to impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood in the tent. Airing across five episodes, hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding will welcome 20 new famous faces.

Sunday night’s episode saw Danny, 46, join Rhod Gilbert, Leigh Francis and Yinka Bokinni in the iconic Channel 4 tent. At the start of the episode, the hit baking series couldn’t resist poking fun at Danny’s stint in EastEnders in the show’s signature opening sketch.

Introducing the show, Danny joined Alison, 49, outside as she thanked him for doing the show before adding: “I loved you in EastEnders!” to which Danny quickly replied: “Yeah, I’m not in it no more, so…” as Alison responded: “Fair enough!”

Danny quickly panicked as he admitted that he had left his lucky mixing spoon indoors to which the iconic EastEnders’ doof doof theme played with the camera panning on Noel playing the drums.

To which the host admitted: “Sorry, got a bit carried away! I think I’ve found it” as he used the lucky mixing spoon to play the drums. This prompted Danny to exclaim: “Oh thank f**k for that, cheers Noel!”

Viewers were delighted to see Danny on the iconic baking series, taking to Twitter, now X, to share their thoughts. One person said: “Danny Dyer! #GBBO”, a different account put: “Loving some Danny Dyer #gbbo”, a different account said: “Would watch a Danny Dyer cookery programme. #GBBO” while another added: “Danny Dyer makes me smile. Top telly whenever he turns up. #GBBO.”

Soap fans will recall that Danny’s popular character, Mick Carter, was last seen heading out into the sea on Christmas Day 2022. The character seemingly drowned after jumping into the sea to save his ex-wife Linda, who he had recently reunited with.

However, in true soap fashion, fans are convinced he will return to Walford one day as his body was never discovered and a funeral was never held for the Queen Vic landlord.

Last month, Danny set tongues wagging when an Instagram comment was spotted by eagle-eyed fans on his former co-star’s post. Kellie Bright, who plays Danny’s on-screen ex-wife Linda posed as her character with a T-shirt that referenced EastEnders’ Christmas storyline. It read: “I killed Keanu,” and Kellie captioned the post: “So what this? Er, yeah. I just, I liked it and I thought I’d get it. You know when you see something and you think that is so me. That is so me that top. I just had to have it.”

Danny commented: “Oh I… Bring Mick back [broken heart emoji],” leading to many fans suspecting a Mick return could be in the pipeline. This isn’t the first time Danny has suggested he could return to Walford, saying previously: “Anything is possible. Where would he have gone to? He can’t swim. I found it a bit odd.”

EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw also said: “It’s a soap, anything can happen! There wasn’t a body so there’s every chance, will Mick rock back up in Walford in a few years covered in seaweed?”
