Danny Dyer’s wife accidentally proposed to husband after awkward gaffe

Danny Dyer's wife was hit with an awkward blunder one Valentine's Day which ultimately ended up being the reason the pair tied the knot after years of saying no

Danny Dyer’s wife proposed accidentally when she bought a Valentine’s cake iced with “Will You Marry Me?” – and forgot to eat it.

Former EastEnders star Danny found it in the middle of the night when he got the munchies – and ran back upstairs to say: “Yes, yes, yes.”

Danny had proposed to Jo four times, but she always said no. They separated after the birth of their first daughter, future television personality Dani, in 1996, but later reconciled.

Jo only revealed her unintentional proposal when they appeared on their friends James and Clair Buckley’s In Sickness and in Health podcast.

She said: “It was Valentine’s Day and you were at home. I went to Millie’s Cookies, bought the last muffin, which said ‘Will You Marry Me’, but I didn’t mean it.

“It was just the last one there. So I thought ‘I’m going to have that tonight’.

“Forgot to eat the muffin, left it downstairs, went to bed. He’s come up three in the morning, ‘Yes, yes, yes’. And I thought ‘What?’ I was so embarrassed.”

Danny, who revealed he’d never been told it was all an accident, said: “Are you telling me you weren’t going to propose to me? “Jo replied: “No, I wasn’t going to propose.”

Dyer added: “We got married by accident. What a romantic story.”

The pair tied the knot in 2016 at a lavish wedding with their three children all in attendance to celebrate their big day. Danny previously admitted on a podcast with his daughter that he’s “still paying” for the big day.

He also questioned why people get married, admitting that it feels more like marrying for other people than for the couple, adding that it should be about the celebration of love between the pair.

Danny previously opened up to Jonathan Ross about his long term relationship, telling the host: “I don’t know what took me so long [to get married], really, it’s crazy.

“[We’ve been together] 30 years. I appreciate it now, I get it… she is incredible my wife.”
