BBC One viewers were horrified and scared for Denise Fox as she faced spine-chilling hallucinations of Keanu Taylor.

Consumed by guilt, the hairstylist portrayed by Diane Parish tried to find an escape by admitting she was involved in the hunk’s death during a visit to her former husband, Lucas Johnson.

However, everything spiralled out of control for Denise and she was eventually given no other choice but to be sectioned.

In scenes airing next week, Denise is in hospital as her family try to cope with her condition.

Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Denise’s husband Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) are thrown together as Lily Slater and Ricky Branning (Frankie Day) celebrate Mother’s Day at Walford East with their baby Charli.

Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) and Ricky beg Jack to let them see Denise, and he promises to speak to her daughter Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) to make it happen.

However, this could be more complicated than originally anticipated as Denise is refusing to see anyone.

Meanwhile, Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) insists that Stacey needs to get to Denise before Jack or the kids do, or they run the risk of their murder secret being blown wide open.

In other scenes, Johnny piles on the pressure to get Stacey to sort the issue of Denise for all the Six’s sake, so she asks Denise to let her visit.

At the hospital, Denise tells Stacey she’s no longer seeing Keanu but intends to stay in hospital for her own good.

However, Stacey argues that Denise needs her loved ones around her, just as Jack walks in and demands to know why his mistress is in the hospital.

Stacey thinks on her feet to give Jack a convincing cover story as to why she’s with Denise, but he’s hurt when the latter turns him away.

During a talk with Dr Abe later, Denise explains that she feels safe in the hospital and wants to stay – could she put the Six’s secret in peril?

Elsewhere in Albert Square, Jack is still rattled by Stacey and Denise’s closeness and starts to do some digging.

Will he find out they were both involved in Keanu’s murder?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
