Does George Knight die on EastEnders and is Colin Salmon leaving the BBC soap?

George Knight - played by Colin Salmon - is rushed to hospital tonight after he gets dizzy and almost collapsed, leaving his family fearful that he might die in shock scenes

Fans have been left concerned by George Knight’s health on EastEnders.

George, played by Colin Salmon, arrived in the Square a number of months ago with his daughters Gina Knight and Anna Knight. However, they were unaware that their mum Cindy Beale – who they had known as Rose Knight – was actually a former resident of Albert Square, leading to a huge revelation about Cindy’s past years as Rose.

Following that, George also took centre stage in a storyline about baby farming. He was given up by his birth parents, and was looked after by Eddie and Gloria Knight. However, it was later revealed that Eddie had killed George’s biological father so that he and Gloria could keep the baby, with Eddie now in prison and Gloria having passed away.

Tonight, on the day of Gloria’s memorial, George has bad injuries from his fight the night before. When he gets dizzy and almost collapses, Cindy and Phil tell him he needs to go to hospital. Once there, he gets a CAT scan – and it’s revealed that he has a brain condition linked to repeated blows to the head. The doctor warns George one hit could kill him.

Whilst this would give anyone the wake up call to stop fighting out of fear for their own life, George decides to sign up for another fight – leaving fans no doubt fearful that George could die in the Square.

There has been no confirmation whether George Knight will die, or if Colin Salmon is leaving the BBC soap. Speaking about his decision to join the show, he told The Mirror: “It’s a no-brainer. My wife’s not well so I can’t be far from home. I was born in the Mothers’ Hospital, in Clapton Pond, decades ago, and I’m an East Ender and it was a big show for us growing up.

“Everybody I’ve told I’m doing this has got really excited. The universe has been really kind and I’m loving it. It’s like a meeting of theatre, film and telly – it’s a different genre. You’ve got to work hard. I like working hard and I’m happy.”
