EastEnders spoilers follow for Thursday’s episode (September 12), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

EastEnders has aired a sensational character return in Chrissie Watts’ story in the show’s latest episode.

This week, Sharon has been faced with her former stepmother in prison, who attempted to kill her as revenge for the events of almost 20 years ago.

Sharon was given the chance to speak up about Chrissie to the prison governor, but Chrissie threatened to expose Sharon’s secret about Keanu’s murder.

In today’s episode, Martin and Zack visited Sharon in prison and they were keen to find out more about Chrissie. Sharon was scared about going to the meeting, and Zack was concerned that Chrissie had something over her.

Chrissie then confronted Sharon in the laundry room again and tried to convince her to tell the governor it was just a misunderstanding, repeating her previous threat.

She admitted that she was scared about facing the real world after 19 years in prison, and the pair had a candid chat about the past.

Sharon explained that she only tipped off the police all those years ago because she was devastated that Chrissie had lied to her about it.

They agreed that Den got what he deserved and came to a truce, with Sharon promising to cancel the meeting with the governor.

After her parole board hearing, Chrissie found out she was being released from prison immediately on good behaviour.

As they said their goodbyes, Chrissie brought up Denny’s death, and Sharon asked how she knew about this.

Chrissie revealed that Johnny Allen’s daughter Ruby told her, as they used to be cellmates – before she went to give birth.

It was announced last week that Ruby will be returning to EastEnders later this year, and this is confirmation that she was in fact pregnant when she left in 2021.

As Sharon prepared for her final few days in prison and realised that Martin has a child he has never met, Chrissie made a mysterious phone call.

Later, Chrissie made a triumphant return to Albert Square in a flashy sports car, and she was driven by none other than Jake Moon.

Yes, 18 years after he was presumed dead, it was revealed that Jake is very much alive, as he reunited with his former flame.

Chrissie surveyed the Square one last time and even wanted to pop into The Vic, but Jake was keen to start their new life together.

With that, the couple drove away, hand in hand – just seconds before Jake’s cousin Alfie left The Vic.

Will we ever see either Chrissie or Jake again? We’ll have to wait and see…

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
