EastEnders has aired a shocking murder twist that changes everything for George Knight (Colin Salmon) and his family.

In recent scenes, George learnt that dad Eddie Knight (Christopher Fairbank) was due to face trial for a racially motivated murder, after being accused of murdering a man called Henry Kofi Asare over 40 years ago.

Eddie and wife Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell) were hoping that George would stand up in court as Eddie’s character witness, though George felt betrayed that his dad would use him in this way.

After researching the murder case, George was horrified to see a picture of the victim, and soon called Eddie and Gloria over to the Vic to talk.

It was there that he revealed that he recognised the man in the photo, and recounted how he had witnessed Eddie and his mates beating him up, before running from the building, terrified.

While Eddie finally insisted that he had been responsible, he insisted that they hadn’t intended to kill Henry, but that he must have had a ‘weak heart’.

He was also adamant that the attack wasn’t racially motivated, though George was able to recall countless occasions during his childhood when Eddie had stood by and let his friends make racist comments to George.

Just as George was prepared to offer support to his father, Eddie’s racism surfaced again, with a glass smashing in the confrontation and grabbing the attention of both Gloria and Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) upstairs.

The women rushed down to see what was going on, and Gloria dropped a bombshell that would turn George’s life upside down.

She begged George not to be too hard on Eddie, as everything he had done had been for her, she revealed.

She explained how Henry had wanted to take George back, and Gloria asked Eddie to do whatever he could to stop that from happening.

It was then that George realised that Henry Kofi Asare was his birth father, who had paid Gloria and Eddie to look after his son as part of an unofficial fostering arrangement known as farming.

With George reeling from the revelation that George’s adopted father had murdered his birth father, how will he move on from here?
