EastEnders’ Callum Highway’s future ‘uncertain’ after Ben Mitchell’s emotional exit
EastEnders recently aired emotional scenes when Ben Mitchell was forced to say goodbye to his police officer husband Callum Highway from behind bars after his shock arrest
EastEnders’ Callum Highway has been left in tatters after Ben Mitchell’s emotional exit.
The couple have been through plenty of ups and downs during their relationship but it looks like Ben’s imprisonment could mean the end of their romance.
With actor Max Bowden leaving the show for good, Callum’s time on Albert Square is looking fairly foggy and AI has shared it’s uncertainty with what will happen to the character. Sharing what the future may hold for Callum, who is played by actor Tony Clay, AI said: “The fate of Callum in EastEnders after Ben’s exit is uncertain. There has been speculation about a potential exit for Callum too.
“Here are the two possibilities. Callum exits alongside Ben- this seems like a logical possibility since their relationship has been a central part of Callum’s storyline. Leaving together for a fresh start would be a way to write off Callum’s character.
“Callum stays in Albert Square- even though Ben is gone, there could be reasons for Callum to remain. He might have established friendships or storylines that can continue without Ben. Ultimately, the decision of Callum’s future lies with the soap’s writers. We’ll have to wait and see what they decide.”
On Thursday night (March 28), emotions reached an all time high when Callum was forced to say goodbye to Ben from behind bars. Ben’s prison twist occured after he committed theft and fraud while in America seeking cancer treatment for the late Lola Pearce-Brown (Danielle Harold).
Although the crime did seem likely it was never really alluded to until the moment the police closed in. With all the turmoil occuring in Ben’s life, Callum made the decision to cut Ben out of his life. However he later had a change of heart and used his detective status to visit Ben. But it was heartbreaking for Callum as he spoke to Ben from outside his prison cell.
As Ben’s final scenes aired, emotional fans headed over to social media platform X to share their take. One fan wrote: “What a huge loss for Eastenders, Max Bowden IS Ben Mitchell, we don’t want or need a replacement.” Another said: “Caught up with #Eastenders last nights episode and so sad to see @MaxBowden best Ben ever leave. Who made you feel every emotion on this hour with him #ballum.”
