EastEnders character makes secret return two years after exit in scene missed by fans

EastEnders aired some confusing scenes in a recent episode, just as a double return was confirmed.

Two major past characters made their comebacks as part of sad funeral scenes, as Walford bid farewell to Keanu Taylor. The only thing is one of the returns was missed in an odd twist, with just the one return character seen in the episodes.

Karen Taylor was shown returning to Albert Square once more following the murder of her son Keanu. Keanu’s funeral took place this week, and so Karen was back alone, joined by daughter Bernie and nephew Felix.

But a scene later in the episode sparked confusion, shortly after Karen had confirmed a number of family members were missing the service. Karen revealed two of her sons and partner Mitch Baker were not in attendance, with it all too much for them.

Not long after this though it was seemingly confirmed that another of her children and a past soap favourite had returned to the soap for the funeral, to bid farewell to his brother. Keegan Baker’s return was seemingly confirmed, two years after he left with wife Tiffany Butcher.

The only thing was we did not actually see Keegan’s comeback, leaving some viewers confused. The service itself was not shown and while we heard Karen speaking to the attendees, we did not see the funeral or who was there.

Instead, we saw Karen back in Walford thanking people for their support before she visited Keanu’s accused killer Dean Wicks in prison. It was only when Sonia Fowler reached out to niece Tiffany on the phone later on that we even learned Keegan was there.

According to Sonia, Keegan had already left Walford and was headed back to Germany where he lives with Tiff. Sonia told her Keegan had already left for the airport after the service and was on his way home, but viewers did not actually see him.

Instead it seems Keegan met his family at the church and stayed for the service offscreen, before leaving for the airport without returning to his old home. So while Keegan did return to the soap briefly, it was offscreen and missed by viewers.

Some fans were confused over the point of this, as others wondered if there had been a mistake over whether he was there or not. Some viewers were quick to explain the episode appeared to confirm the comeback, but it was offscreen.
