EastEnders spoilers follow from Tuesday’s episode (May 28), which is available now on BBC iPlayer but hasn’t yet aired on BBC One.

EastEnders has confirmed that Nish Panesar is telling the truth about his illness.

The big revelation aired in Tuesday’s episode as Nish’s sceptical family followed him to the hospital.

Nish returned to Albert Square this week following a three-month absence, facing an immediate backlash from the Panesars as they’d all previously warned him to stay away.

The villain pleaded for sympathy, announcing that he was dying and wanted a last chance to make amends.

In Tuesday’s visit to Walford, the Panesars refused to believe that Nish was telling the truth as he claimed that his heart was failing. Suki, Ravi and Vinny all accused him of trying to manipulate them yet again.

A desperate Nish then focused his efforts on the younger members of the family, hoping that his grandchildren Avani and Nugget would be prepared to hear him out.

Ravi was unimpressed to spot Nish speaking to Nugget at McKlunky’s. He shoved his controlling father, but was startled as Nish fell to the floor in severe pain.

When Nish was checked over at the hospital following the incident, Ravi, Suki, Vinny and Nugget all joined him there and realised that he was telling the truth about being seriously ill.

The situation was in fact worse than Nish had thought, as doctors broke the news that his heart was failing more quickly than expected and he was unlikely to receive a donor organ in time.

As Nish was left shaken by the grim news that he may only have months to live, Suki couldn’t resist a brief smile. This paves the way for a new chapter of drama for the Panesar family, with Suki and Vinny teaming up against Nish once more next week.

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
