EastEnders have written in a key scene to explain why Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) is on crutches.
The Walford businesswoman got a huge shock in last night’s (27th May) episode when her ex-husband Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) returned unannounced and handed her their divorce papers.
Nish has been absent from Albert Square for months, after his family caught him threatening Suki and plotting to rinse girlfriend Kat Mitchell (Jessie Wallace) of her husband Phil’s (Steve McFadden) business and financial assets that she was set to acquire in her own divorce settlement.
At the beginning of the episode, Suki shared a sweet moment where she discussed girlfriend Eve Unwin’s (Heather Peace) birthday plans.
However, fans were more distracted by the fact she was having to use the support of crutches to move about the house.
When Eve branded her partner ‘hop-along’, Suki chirped back and explained ‘it’s not a proper mosh pit unless somebody ends up on crutches and you know it.’

As the episode played out, the true intention of Nish’s arrival became clear when he told his family that he was terminally ill.
Actress Balvinder was seen on the red carpet of the BAFTAs wearing a moon boot earlier this month. Although it’s not clear what happened to cause the injury, she smiled for the cameras and didn’t appear to be in too much pain.

In recent months the actress has been sharing updates with fans on social media following the death of her mother, Nirmal.
In a heartfelt statement, she explained that Nirmal had ‘passed peacefully, with dignity & grace, just as she’d lived her whole life’.
