When it comes to Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) in EastEnders, suffice to say it’s becoming more and more difficult to work out just who he really is.
Arriving in Walford shortly after Dot Cotton’s (June Brown) funeral, Reiss quickly began a relationship with Sonia (Natalie Cassidy).
He’s known for his very forward ways and not being afraid to say what he thinks. However, in recent episodes, fans of the BBC One soap have started to grow suspicious of him.
This week, Bianca (Patsy Palmer) discovered some key information about Reiss and Sonia’s money source for IVF.
After the couple decided to venture down this path to try and become parents, it was confirmed Reiss was paying for the rounds of treatment by stealing from Debbie – his wife who is in a coma.
When Bianca followed Reiss to the care home, it wasn’t long until she confronted him about his actions. She was adamant stealing from Debbie was wrong, but Reiss argued that if she was able to communicate, Debbie would want Reiss and Sonia to use the cash for their parenthood journey.
Later on in the episode, Bianca told Reiss that eventually, her sister will see him for the person he really is. Reiss harshly called Bianca a ‘toxic mess’ and as his anger towards the situation grew, we saw a dark side to Reiss we hadn’t seen before.
After these scenes aired, EastEnders fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on Reiss, and the possibility he’s hiding a very dark secret about wife Debbie.
‘Is Reiss the reason Debbie is in a coma? Is he showing his true colours?’, one fan speculated.
Echoing this, another EastEnders watcher said: ‘Imagine if Reiss physically lashed out at Debbie out of anger and that’s why she’s in her coma’.
So, is Bianca right? Did Reiss’ anger grow because she got too close to the truth?
Will Sonia end up in danger soon if the real Reiss did put Debbie in a coma?
