EastEnders fans ‘switch off’ and beg character to leave soap after ‘disgusting’ change

EastEnders’ Dean Wicks has caused plenty of drama since his return last year - but fans rushed to complain about the character's date in the latest episode of the BBC soap

EastEnders fans have been left fuming at their screens and have begged a soap baddie to leave the square.

Bad guy Dean Wicks, played by Matt Di Angelo, returned to Walford last year. And it’s fair to say he has caused plenty of drama since.

Not only has been terrorising Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) who he once raped, his daughter Jade has also moved in with him – oblivious to her evil dad’s ways. However, during Monday’s episode (February 26) a potential new love interest was introduced for Dean.

The character, called Fern, made her debut and could be seen flirting with Dean at his workplace Ian Beale’s. Meanwhile daughter Jade watched on.

Despite being hesitant at first, Dean warmed up the idea of going on a date with Fern later on in the week, after Jade told him to. She ended up finding Fern to get her number to pass over to her dad.

But it seems fans are not happy at the show appearing to “humanise” the character – given his history. So much so, that they have begged the baddie to leave the soap.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person fumed: “Jesus Christ axe Dean.” Someone else added: “I hate the fact they’re semi-trying to redeem Dean.” A third quipped: “I don’t not want to see Dean dating turning off bye.”

Another proclaimed: “Stop trying to humanise Dean.” A fifth chimed in and wrote: “Why tf are we watching dean getting set up on a date it’s disgusting.

“So sick seeing him go around the place as if he has done nothing wrong no one should be giving him any advice about anything whatsoever they should be staying well clear of him he rlly needs to go,” they added.

A sixth proclaimed: “F**k off dean why are the right is trying to normalise this sick b*****d.” Someone else mused: “I’m still a little clueless as to why they brought Dean back and where they’re going with his character.”
