EastEnders fans ‘vomiting’ over Whitney’s proposal as they slam soap pattern

Eastenders' Whitney got down on one knee and asked her cheating partner Zack to marry her in the latest episode of the BBC soap, but viewers didn't like it one bit

EastEnders viewers were left cringing as Whitey popped the question to Zack.

Zack hasn’t been faithful to Whitney (Shona McGarty), cheating on her with Lauren. But she’s none the wiser and on Thursday’s instalment (May 2) of the BBC soap she got down on one knee in the Queen Vic and asked him to marry her.

“We are going to be the best family,” said Whitney, who is pregnant. “I love you and I really want you to be my husband so… will you marry me? Before my waters break or what?”

Zack (James Farrar) said yes as the crowd – which included Olly Alexander, making a guest appearance – cheered and clapped. But Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) could be seen looking shifty and Bianca (Patsy Palmer), who knows what has been going on, looking as if she was fuming.

“Omg Whitney agh,” said another, as somebody else wrote: “Oh nooo… Whitney proposing to Zack!” “I did not expect to see Whitney proposing to Zack,” remarked one viewer, as another disgusted fan admitted: “Whitney is making me sick.”

Zach said yes to Whitney and fans hated it

“A heavily pregnant Whitney proposing to her scoundrel of a boyfriend???” asked someone else. “The writers took it too far with this one.”

Other viewers just seemed to be miffed about the fact that it was Whitney asking Zack to marry her, as opposed to the other way around. And that it came not long after Honey proposed to Billy.

“They need to stop pushing this narrative of women proposing to men in EastEnders,” one said. “I hate it so much.” Another called it “propaganda”, asking: “Why are the women proposing to men?”

But someone else chimed in: “Well, 2024 is a leap year. The only time when women can propose to men.”
