EastEnders fans warn they’ll ‘switch off’ over Phil Mitchell’s ‘new romance’ with ex
EastEnders’ Phil Mitchell is currently single after ex-wife Kat dumped him - but now fans reckon they know who he’ll be cracking on with next and they are not happy
EastEnders fans are fuming as they are convinced they know who Phil Mitchell will start a romance with next.
The soap icon, played by Steve McFadden, was dumped by wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) recently after his one-night-stand with Emma Harding came to light. Fans will recall Phil bonked Lola’s mum last year – and she ended up blackmailing him.
But last month Phil’s sister Sam (Kim Medcalf) exposed everything – with a heartbroken Kat moving out of her home with Phil. She has since landed back on her feet though.
Much to the shock of the Albert Square residents, and viewers, she has struck up a romance with Nish Panesar. The soap baddie was left single after ex Suki called it quits on their abusive relationship.
Since then, Phil has made it clear he doesn’t approve of Kat and Nish’s romance – even threatening him if he were to ever hurt her. But now, fans are convinced he will be shacking up with ex-wife Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth).
During Tuesday’s episode (February 6) the pair, who share a son Ben, had plenty of scenes that sparked suspicion online that they may get back together.
And it’s fair to say fans are not happy at their potential reunion. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “I really hope Phil & Kathy don’t reunite.”
A second mused: “Why do I get the feeling they’re setting up a Phil x Kathy reunion?” A third proclaimed: “CLENSHAW. DON’T. YOU. DARE. PUT KATHY AND PHIL BACK TOGETHER.”
Echoing their thoughts, another viewer said: “They are not SERIOUSLY going to get Kathy and Phil back together, are they?” A fifth replied: If they do I won’t be watching it anymore.”

Phil and Kathy started dating back in 1993 and their relationship was rocky right from the very start to say the least. During the iconic episode known as Sharongate, Phil’s affair with Sharon Watts was revealed. Despite the drama, Kathy went ahead and married Phil and fell pregnant with son Ben.
After Ben was born, Phil turned to booze and became violent – causing Kathy to leave him. The pair ended up divorcing – but despite their hiccups, Kathy turned to Phil for help when she was forced to fake her own death. With the help of Phil she was able to return to Walford in 2015.
