EastEnders has finally aired Ben Mitchell’s (Max Bowden) exit and it is safe to say that it was an emotional one.

Ben was recently arrested for committing fraud in America and was denied bail after being deemed a flight risk.

Unfortunately, this meant that husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay) missed out on his last opportunity to see him before the court date.

However, being a police officer, Callum managed to use his badge to get down to the cells for one last conversation with Ben, which was certainly a rollercoaster of emotions.

While Ben lamented over how unfair it was that he was being punished for trying to help Lola Pearce, Callum made it clear that he wasn’t prepared to defend his actions.

Callum was quick to point out how he had begged Ben not to go to America and stay to support him, Lola and daughter Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown), and that he deserved to be punished for committing a crime.

Although solicitor Ritchie Scott was advising Ben to plead not guilty, Callum urged him to take a guilty plea instead, explaining that it would land him a shorter sentence.

Ben agreed, but with Callum opening up about how difficult their marriage had been for him at points, he soon made a huge, shocking decision.

He explained that Callum deserved freedom, and shouldn’t be expected to wait for him to get out of prison, and decided it was time to call it quits on their time together.
