EastEnders legend ‘to be killed off’ after 34 years as ‘gutted’ fans say ‘end of an era’

EastEnders fans fear death could be on the cards for soap legend Phil Mitchell.
The character, played by Steve McFadden, is a staple on the BBC soap – making his debut back in 1990. And since then, he’s been a part of some of the show’s most iconic storylines.
Phil is known for being the son of Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor), and the brother of Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) and Sam Mitchell (Danniella Westbrook).
The character is also famous for having a string of romances with various residents of Albert Square, situated in the fictional East London borough, of Walford.
His relationship with fellow soap legend Kat Slater is also now over after his one-night-stand with Emma Harding last year came to light. Since then, Kat has moved their kids out – leaving him devastated.
However, fans are now fearing that Phil could be getting killed off – and they are not too happy about it.
On a Reddit thread, one person said: “How will EastEnders fare once Steve McFadden finally calls it a day in the show?” Someone replied: “I’ll be gutted when that happens. I’ll still watch, but I will miss Phil. He is a legend.”
A second fan wrote: “When Phil Mitchell leaves I’ll probably take that as a sign to stop watching to be honest. Not because I particularly love the character, just that it’ll be the end of an era and unlikely to get any better after the Mitchell years end.”
Meanwhile, on X, another viewer shared that Phil’s potential death could coincide with a big soap anniversary. They said: “I feel like we are heading towards the end of Phil Mitchell.
“I’m sure we are now heading for an almighty Whodunnit as we head towards the 40th Anniversary… “ A second X user quipped: “The end of Phil is near.”
