Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) was left reeling in Wednesday’s EastEnders, as Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) revealed that Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) is the one who’s been blackmailing them.

Unfortunately for them, however, that was only the beginning of their nightmare as Bernie stepped up her campaign to get Sharon sent down for brother Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) murder, ahead of Dean Wicks’ explosive trial next week.

Wednesday’s episode saw Linda arrive back in Albert Square after a break away with son Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff), following her recent hospitalisation for alcohol poisoning, which Bernie was partly responsible for.

After Kathy Beale’s suspicions about Bernie were alerted earlier in the week upon the discovery she had a burner phone, Sharon rushed over to the Vic to tell a stunned Linda that Bernie was their blackmailer.

The pair then put a plan into action, summoning Bernie over to Sharon’s to confront her.

After Sharon called the burner phone, Bernie was forced to confess, revealing she’d been visiting Dean in prison and believes he is innocent.

Linda – who is actually the one who killed Keanu – was horrified to learn Bernie had been in cahoots with her rapist, and the fact she couldn’t look Bernie in the eye then further convinced her that Linda was hiding something.

Bernie then outlaid her theory that Sharon killed Keanu, pointing out that the ‘Square’s Black Widow’ had previously tried to murder ex-husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) to avenge her son Denny’s death.

Sharon and Linda were unable to convince Bernie of their innocence, and now more empowered than ever, Bernie warned them it was ‘not over’.

At the end of the episode, Sharon opened her front door to find ‘Murderer’ painted across it, before Bernie then threw a can of red paint over her.

Beginning to shout her mouth off, Bernie said she no longer had to hide and warned that the truth would out in court next week.

Hearing the commotion, the other members of The Six watched on in horror from across the Square…

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on iPlayer.
