EastEnders’ Max Branning return ‘sealed’ after actor drops ‘clue’ — and fans can’t wait

EastEnders’ Max Branning hasn’t been seen in Walford since 2021 - but viewers of the long-running soap are certain he’ll be making a return after actor Jake Wood dropped a "clue"

Meanwhile, daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) has recently rocked back up to the square. She returned home with cousin Penny (Kitty Castledine) at the start of the year.

But now, three years since his exit, and actor Jake has appeared to tease his return to the soap – and fans have been left in a frenzy. On Tuesday (March 5) Jake appeared on The One Show to talk about his new project, a theatre adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Our Mutual Friend.

He was then quizzed whether he would make a return to the small screen anytime soon. Jake replied: “Definitely. I’m at the National until the end of June, then we’ll see what happens after that, but yeah for sure.”

Fans straight away were quick to claim how this could hint at his return. What’s more, some fans reckon they know when it could be happening.

One fan wrote: “Jake wood just said on the one show he’s returning to TV after he’s finished with his current directing gig, max branning COME HOME.” A second replied: “I feel like it’s why they brought Lauren and Penny back.

“They’re clearly doing a Branning revival this year then they’ll probably start giving Lauren some storylines. I don’t think Chris Clenshaw would have persuaded Jaqueline to return if they didn’t have anything planned.”

Someone else said they reckon he could return by the soap’s 40th anniversary next year. The viewer mused: “I’ll be very surprised if he’s not back by the 40th.” Someone else wrote: “I think the 40th too.”

EastEnders fans are convinced Jake Wood is returning to the soap as Max Branning after he dropped a ‘clue’.

The actor, 51, shot to fame playing The Walford womaniser on the BBC soap – making his debut back in 2006. And he quickly cemented himself as a firm-favourite with viewers.

For 15 years, Max was a regular on the soap and was involved in some of the show’s biggest plots, including the iconic 2007 Christmas Day storyline. But in 2021, Jake left the soap – leaving fans gutted.

Viewers will recall how he hasn’t been seen on screen since February 2021 when his failed romance with Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) left him feeling he had nothing left in Albert Square. He then fled to Croatia with his granddaughter Abi Branning by his side.
