EastEnders Michelle Collins told ‘to leave soap’ by troll after age dig – so she hits back
EastEnders’ Michelle Collins is a firm-favourite on the BBC One soap as Cindy Beale - but the actress was forced to hit back at a rude troll who told her she “needs to go”
EastEnders’ Michelle Collins has clapped back at a troll who made an age dig.
The character made her epic return to the BBC One soap last year after 25 years off-screen. Fans will recall, that Cindy was said to have been killed off-screen in 1998.
But the fan-favourite never actually died in childbirth, as fans were told, and instead was put into witness protection and given a new identity Rose Sawyer.
Since her comeback, Cindy has caused plenty of drama. But this week, actress Michelle was forced to hit back at a rude social media user.
The 61-year-old actress said: “Sorry ???? Go where ??? As one woman to another, why bring up age ?” Michelle’s followers were quick to rally around and support her over the vile post.
One fan said: “JEALOUSLY because you still look GREAT!!! Honestly what a horrible thing to say! Does worry me how some folk actually think soaps are real.” Someone else added: “One of the highlights of last year bringing you back, glad you said yes!!”
A third penned: “Cindy needs to stay, I need to see Elaine win George, and then I need to see Cindy’s next adventure! She can’t go anywhere, she is too good! What’s age got to do with life adventures!”
Although Michelle found fame as Cindy Beale, she recently shared that she actually tried out for another role. She was in the frame to play punk Mary Smith back in the early 80s, when the soap was still in the planning stages with the working title E8.
Speaking to What To Watch and other press this summer, Michelle said: “Interestingly enough, I originally went up for the part of Mary the punk when it was called E8 and I didn’t get that.” Luckily, all was not lost when Michelle failed to nab the part of single mum Mary, and there was another chance for her to get into Walford.
It came about when she was doing another BBC drama, entitled Pressures. There, she caught the eye of screenwriter Tony Holland, who co-created EastEnders with director and producer Julia Smith.
