EastEnders newcomer Stevie Mitchell has ulterior motive in coming to Walford – and it’s heartbreaking
Stevie Mitchell (Alan Ford) recently arrived in Walford hoping to reunite with his family, and recent EastEnders scenes saw him finally admit his real reason for coming.
Despite his relationship with son Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) being fractured almost beyond repair, Stevie was keen for them to try again, though Billy wasn’t receptive to the idea.
Having known Stevie at his worst, Billy believed he had an ulterior motive for reaching out to his family again, and was determined to get to the bottom of it.
After lashing out at son Will (Freddie Phillips), Billy promised to make it up to him by hearing Stevie out, and the pair soon met in the Queen Vic.
Billy was keen to get straight down to business and wasted no time in asking Stevie why he had really got back in contact – and Stevie’s answer was devastating.
He was quick to set the record straight by confirming that he wasn’t after any money, but instead had come to realise that he needed his family around.
He explained how he had been on his own for many years, but he had been okay with that because he had his friends around.
However, he tragically revealed how he had reached an age where he was attending a friend’s funeral almost every week, and he was worried that he would have no one left to mourn him.
He went on to reveal how he has grown increasingly lonely, and has found himselftrying to have a conversation supermarket cashiers just so that he can have someone to talk to.
He explained how upset he was not to have seen Billy at Aunt Sal’s funeral, but revealed that he believed seeing Honey Mitchell’s (Emma Barton) proposal on TV was a sign.
It seemed as though Stevie had finally managed to break down some barriers, as when Honey and the kids later arrived home, they found Billy and Stevie waiting for them.
As Honey revealed she was proud of Billy for giving him another chance, he insisted that it was on a trial basis only.
