EastEnders killer Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) currently has more secrets knocking around in his closet than partner Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) realises, but she took action to protect him on Wednesday.

As fans of the BBC soap know, Reiss stole money from comatose wife Debbie’s account to pay for his and Sonia’s IVF treatment.

After Reiss smothered Debbie to death in a bid to solve his further money woes last week, her parents Brenda and Hugh Collins (Nichola McAuliffe and Michael Bertenshaw) arrived in Walford, and were disgusted to learn about the stolen money.

After revealing they’d also been pouring money into the account – meaning Reiss was effectively stealing from them too – Brenda vowed to report him to the police.

On tonight’s episode, Sonia brated Reiss over his financial decisions, and sought advice from her uncle, police detective Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) about what trouble he could be in.

Jack informed her that as he had power of attorney over Debbie’s affairs, there would not technically be a case to answer, which was music to a relieved Sonia’s ears.

However, Jack questioned the morality of Reiss’ actions, which Sonia was not prepared to listen to, walking out of the conversation.

Meanwhile, the locals were soon gossiping about the news Sonia was no longer selling the house, remarking about how Debbie’s life insurance would now solve their money woes.

After a confrontation with Avani and Priya Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James and Sophie Khan-Levy) in The Vic, an enraged Sonia refused to take judgement and started tearing strips off many other punters, pointing out their previous misgivings.

Little does she realise, however, that Reiss isn’t quite as innocent as he’d like to make out, still hiding the fact he was the one who killed his own wife.
