EastEnders star admits they are ‘scared’ to do the school run amid evil storylines and beg producers to go
The actor is hoping fans don't take his character's actions out on him
EASTENDERS actor Navin Chowdhry has admitted playing evil Nish Panesar has resulted in him asking producers to tone it down for his own safety.
The 53-year-old actor has played the evil businessman on the BBC soap since September 2022, during which time he’s dealt with hard-hitting storylines that have made him one of the most hated faces on the Square.
But in real life, husband and dad-of-two Navin is far more easy-going, and has admitted he fears fans will blur the line between who he is in real life and on the show.
Speaking to Daily Star, Navin said: “There have been moments when we’ve had scenes and I’ll speak to the producer and I’ll say, ‘I’m going to have to go on the school run and you’re making me beat up every woman on Albert Square’.”
Navin added that he’s already been on the wrong end of “a few unfriendly messages” and “the odd comment” during his day-to-day life.
In scenes next week, Nish is even set to beat up Kat Mitchell as part of his latest dastardly quest for power.
After bedding the fan favourite, Nish feels he has a foothold in his mission to get his hands on the Mitchell fortune, with Kat forging ahead with her divorce proceedings from husband Phil.
He introduces Kat to dodgy lawyer Roger Peel, but when she goes to see him at No. 41 later that day, she begins to realise he’s up to no good.
Over the course of his time on the show, Nish has been seen violent, abusive to ex-wife Suki, and even murdering those in his way.
He was so hated he was even in the line-up for potential murder victims of The Six in last year’s Christmas episode.
But despite not enjoying the fear of the wrath of the public, Navin admits he “enjoys being evil” and adds: “Sometimes when you go really dark, the flipside is you have a very fun experience on set.”
