EastEnders star Patsy Palmer breaks silence on return to soap

"It always feels new."

EastEnders star Patsy Palmer has broken her silence on her return to the soap as Bianca Jackson.

It was announced last week (February 26) that the star would be reprising her role on the BBC soap as part of Whitney Dean’s exit story, with her scenes set to air on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5.

The scenes see Whitney and her partner Zack Hudson visit Bianca in Milton Keynes, with Palmer appearing during a segment on The One Show to reflect on her history with the soap, as well as speak about the upcoming storyline.

“I remember coming onto the other lot and just feeling so surreal, because there was Pete Beale and Dot Cotton – I just remember feeling in awe of everybody,” she said.

“It always feels new – you always want to go back with a fresh head. You never really want to go back with the same head – I’m not here with the same mindset that I was when I left. It’s a fresh experience, but in exactly the same place.”

The star also opened up about her past scenes opposite Bianca’s long-term partner Ricky Butcher, played by Sid Owen.

“Sid and I have a chemistry – we’ve been friends since we were kids anyway cause we went to drama school together,” she said. “We already had a friendship before I came onto EastEnders – I think that’s why they put us together as our chemistry is brilliant.”

Palmer isn’t the only cast member to speak about Whitney’s exit, with Shona McGarty recently explaining her character’s motivations for leaving.

She also spoke about her love of filming stunts, saying: “It’s my favourite thing to do. I just absolutely love doing stunts.

“All the stunt guys and women on this show always try and pull me back a little bit because I’m always saying ‘Can’t I just do that’ as I’m desperate to do stunts when it’s safe for me to do so.”
