EastEnders’ Tamwar Masood star looks completely different with huge beard 7 years later
Hollywood star Himesh Patel looks a far cry from his former EastEnders days where he played the role of loveable Tamwar Masood in the popular BBC soap from 2007-2016
Former EastEnders actor Himesh Patel looked almost unrecognisable as he shared a snap of himself at this year’s BAFTA Awards.
The 33-year-old, who is best known to soap fans for playing the role of Tamwar Masood in the popular BBC programme, looked dapper as he graced the red carpet in a mint green tailored jacket. Looking far more grown up than in his previous Tamwar days, Himesh sported a rather large beard and slicked back hair.
Attending the star-studded event with his wife, who wore a beautiful floral dress, Himesh looked confident as he posed for snaps on the carpet. Sharing the images on his Instagram on Monday (February 27) fans couldn’t get enough of the actor’s fresh look.
One social media user wrote: “Beard is strong! Looking fineeeeee.” Another gushed: “Handsome Man.”
A third wrote: “You guys are looking good for date night!!” While a fourth penned: “Sharp sir!!”
Himesh’s popular character Tamwar first graced screens in 2007 as part of the first Muslim family since the Karims back in the 80s. Keeping the soap diverse and fresh, the family encountered a number of highs and lows in the soap.
A young Tamwar will be remembered mostly for helping his family with their business and putting his Oxbridge dreams on hold. Trying to navigate life as a young Walford resident, Tamwar disappointed his parents Zainab Masood and Masood Ahmed, when he declared that he didn’t want to become a medic, instead, he wanted to become a stand-up comedian.
In 2016, after almost 10 years on the soap, Tamwar left Walford to travel the world with Nancy Carter. The couple later tied the knot but eventually divorced.
Known for his reserved demeanour Tamwar left a lasting impact on the show, showcasing the struggles and triumphs of a young Muslim man in modern-day East London. When leaving the show in 2016, the actor released a heart-felt statement.
He said: “Whatever awaits me, I’ll miss my family at EastEnders immensely – they’ve watched me grow from boy to man and supported me every step of the way. It’s been a true privilege to work alongside them.”
Since his EastEnders departure, Himesh has starred in award-winning film Yesterday. Taking Hollywood by storm has also appeared in Tenet and 2023’s Good Grief.
