Former EastEnders legend Ross Kemp is still remaining tight-lipped over the possibility of Grant Mitchell coming back to Albert Square.

The 57-year-old TV personality first appeared in Walford as hardman Grant from 1990 to 1999. He returned for a year in 2005 before leaving again in 2006, before making one more comeback in 2016.

Addressing the ongoing rumours during Friday’s This Morning, presenter  Alison Hammond asked the star: ‘Now I can’t let you go until we ask you about the EastEnders rumours. What is going on, are you going back for the 40th anniversary. Tell us what’s going on.’

Ross quipped: ‘I can tell you nothing.’

He later added: ‘I am very proud of the show celebrating 40 years and I wouldn’t have had a career, good or bad without it.

‘I absolutely love it and I still support it and I would if I had come from Coronation Street or Emmerdale, well I was in Emmerdale Farm briefly before but yeah, I am proud the show is celebrating the 40 years and I will continue to support it as long as I can.’

Having last been seen in Walford in 2016, during the storyline that saw Peggy Mitchell tragically die, viewers are certainly ready for a Grant Mitchell return.

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw revealed last year that he would love to bring back Grant, for ‘more brotherly drama with Phil’, but would Ross be up for a return?

‘Grant Mitchell, for more brotherly drama with Phil!’, he said during a chat with TV Times.

Prior to Chris’ comments, Ross gave the classic answer of ‘never say never’ when asked the question on The One Show.

‘I loved the part, I did it for 10 years,’ he said.

‘I must have liked it because I stayed there for 10 years. But, you know, look, it was great fun, I loved the cast, it was a great job. [I’m] doing lots of different things right now, but never say never!’

We’ve got everything crossed
