Music star Ben Ofoedu is hoping to join the much-loved BBC soap EastEnders.

The Phats & Small singer spoke exclusively to the Daily Star as he promoted his big summer plans as he joined the lineup of Superboxx Festival. The event will take place at Rochester Castle on July 6.

Vanessa Feltz’s ex Ben said: “I’m waiting for a dad role to pop up in EastEnders, it’s something I’m talking to my agent about. I definitely see myself in a soap, that’s me all day.

“I love the show, I’m friends with many other actors and have been for many years. At the moment, it’s my dream job, it’s like supporting a football team you’ve loved since you were a kid.

But would he want to play a good or bad character? He revealed: “I’ve always been a goody up until last year but then I was cast as a bad guy. So, maybe I’ve turned into a baddy, I think I’m a goody but who knows?”

Ben then spilled the beans on his acting past and how he has a surprising link with an EastEnders icon. He told us: “I love acting, I was always a better actor than I was a singer.

“I went to school with Sophie Laurence, the original actor of Diane Butcher. We used to hang out and have a bit of rivalry and then go to the park and play on the swings.

“I used to beat her in all the drama exams. I’d have 100% and she’d have 95%, so it was always close.

“Then she went on to be Diane and said ‘See ya later’ and then I went to do Phats & Small, who went on to do one of the biggest dance songs of all time, Turn Around, so….

“But it could be a reunion on screen if she ever came back to EastEnders, the two of us would be great.” Sophie played Diane from 1988 to 1991, when she decided to leave. The character made several brief returns in 1993, 1994, and 1997, played by other actors.

Ben can’t wait to perform his nostalgic dance music tunes this summer at festivals such as Superboxx and Kisstory. Talking about the events, he said: “They keep the dream alive. They keep the history of British music going.”

He has also posted a freestyle mix of Spandau Ballet’s True track online and hopes to release it soon. This acts as a teaser for his next album which will feature covers of his favourite 90s tracks but “reimagined” by himself.
