In an episode that saw Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) go to prison for contempt of court, after lashing out at the judge during Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) trial, viewers learnt that Chrissie was in the same prison.

Chrissie and Sharon have a deep history, and a recent trailer proved that Sharon’s time in prison won’t be plain sailing – especially if Chrissie has anything to do with it.

If you’re a newer viewer, or need a recap on who Chrissie is and what crime landed her inside, fear not, because we’ve got you covered.

Who is Chrissie Watts?

Chrissie Watts was the wife of Dirty Den Watts, though their relationship was turbulent, to say the least.

Chrissie arrived in Albert Square in 2004 in search of husband Den, and was shocked to learn that while he had been living in Spain with her, he was hiding from his real family after faking his own death.

Unfortunately, Chrissie soon discovered that Den had been having an affair with her co-worker, Kate Mitchell (Jill Halfpenny), and left Walford, distraught.

When she returned, Den attempted to win back her affection by bringing her in on a deal to scam the Mitchells, but things took a turn for the worse when Chrissie learnt that he had once again cheated – this time with Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan).

Who did Chrissie kill?

In 2005, Chrissie joined forces with Zoe and Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) to get revenge on Den, as they had all been scorned by him in one way or another.

With Chrissie having turned daughter Sharon against him, furious Den lashed out by bashing Chrissie’s head against the Queen Vic fruit machine.

In a bid to save her, Zoe hit Den over the head with a doorstop, and was led to believe that she had killed him for several weeks.

However, Den actually woke up after the assault, and he and Chrissie had a final showdown, during which she hit him over the head again, killing him for good – unaware that Sam had watched the whole thing.

Weeks after burying him under the floor of the barrel store, drunk Sam dug him up again in a bid to reveal the truth, though things backfired when she was arrested for the crime.

However, with the pressure mounting, Chrissie began to make mistakes and eventually let the truth slip, with her confession being recorded on CCTV.

When she tried to flee the country, she was met and the airport by the police, who had been informed by Sharon, Phil and Grant Mitchell (Steve McFadden and Ross Kemp).

Despite originally planning to fight her murder charge, Chrissie eventually pleaded guilty and has been in prison ever since.
