Will Danny Dyer return to EastEnders? Everything he has said about reprising Mick Carter

Danny Dyer returns to TV screens for The Great British Bake Off for SU2C, but EastEnders viewers are desperate to know when he'll return to the BBC soap to reprise his role of Mick Carter

Danny Dyer could also be heading into the jungle after leaving EastEnders

Danny Dyer as Mick Carter was last seen heading out into the sea on Christmas Day 2022.

The EastEnders star seemingly drowned after jumping into the sea to save his ex-wife Linda, who he had recently reunited with. However, in true soap fashion, fans are convinced he will return to Walford one day as his body was never discovered and a funeral was never held for the Queen Vic landlord.

Last month, Danny set tongues wagging when an Instagram comment was spotted by eagle-eyed fans on his former co-star’s post. Kellie Bright, who plays Danny’s on-screen ex-wife Linda posed as her character with a T-shirt that referenced EastEnders’ Christmas storyline. It read: “I killed Keanu,” and Kellie captioned the post: “So what this? Er, yeah. I just, I liked it and I thought I’d get it. You know when you see something and you think that is so me. That is so me that top. I just had to have it.”

Danny commented: “Oh I… Bring Mick back [broken heart emoji],” leading to many fans suspecting a Mick return could be in the pipeline. This isn’t the first time Danny has suggested he could return to Walford, saying previously: “Anything is possible. Where would he have gone to? He can’t swim. I found it a bit odd.”

EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw said: “It’s a soap, anything can happen! There wasn’t a body so there’s every chance, will Mick rock back up in Walford in a few years covered in seaweed?”

Appearing on The Johnathan Ross Show last year, Danny addressed his exit from the BBC soap and suggested a return could one day be an option. He said: “If it goes t*ts up I can go back. I can turn up in three years’ time, walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed…”

The actor said EastEnders’ bosses “wanted to keep it open” before adding that he’s “very privileged and grateful for that job” which “really did change my career and my life”.

Elsewhere, Danny made similar comments on YouTube channel iFL TV referencing a similar story centred around Neighbours stalwart Harold Bishop. “A few people have mentioned him to me because he died, didn’t he? And then he came back, washed up funnily enough… he lost his memory,” he said.

Addressing his exit, Danny added: “I didn’t quite know how [Mick’s final scenes were] gonna go down,” he said. “I felt my character had lost his way. I didn’t quite know who I was playing anymore, it was a really odd thing.

“I’m very grateful for that job. It was a good gig, but now it’s time to move on. I wanna get out again and make some low-budget films.”
