It’s been confirmed Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) is returning to EastEnders.

In order to facilitate Louisa’s maternity leave, Ruby was sent to prison in November 2021 after being wrongly accused by the Slater family of running a cannabis farm.

Ruby and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) were best friends for years. However, their relationship broke down when Ruby started seeing Martin Fowler (James Bye), Stacey’s ex.

Shortly before Ruby’s departure, she claimed to be pregnant with Martin’s child, but he refused to believe her after discovering all of the lies Ruby told that led to Stacey going to prison.

As part of the lead up to the 40th anniversary for the BBC One soap, Ruby will soon make her way back to Albert Square.

For a prolonged stint later this year, we may finally get some answers on whether she was telling the truth about the pregnancy, but suffice to say she will be ready to cause chaos for Martin and Stace, who both thought they had seen the back of her for good.

Speaking about her return, Louisa said: ‘I am thrilled to have been asked back to the Square to revisit Ruby once more, and to shed some light on what the past three years have been like for her during her time away from Walford. I’ve always loved playing Ruby as there is never a dull moment and I cannot wait for everyone to see what Ruby has in store.’

Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer added: ‘I’m delighted to welcome Louisa Lytton back to the role of Ruby Allen. Ruby’s departure from Walford left many unanswered questions for Martin and Stacey, and her return is sure to unearth a whole heap of drama for her character and all those involved.’

Ruby’s return is the next name in a long list of people who have either returned to EastEnders or are set to head back before 2024 ends.

Very soon, Tracy Ann-Oberman will make her way back to Walford as Chrissie Watts.

The former landlady of the Queen Vic, who famously murdered husband Den (Leslie Grantham) and allowed Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) to take the fall for it, was last seen on the Square 19 years ago.

Fans have longed for her to stage a comeback, with EastEnders confirming her return earlier this year, with star Tracy-Ann reprising the role that made her a household name two decades on.

What exactly prompts Chrissie’s historic return remains to be seen as storyline details are largely being kept under wraps, but next Monday’s (September 9) offering of the BBC One soap sees the convicted murderer back in the Square – and it doesn’t take long for drama to ensue!

The chaos continues throughout the week, with Chrissie’s presence well and truly sending shockwaves through the Square, before a difficult week comes to a head.

The question is: just what are Chrissie’s circumstances when we find her next? And, given this is Walford we’re talking out, which of her former foes can we expect to see her locking horns with upon her return?
